Call for Board Members

Director at large. Executive positions are also available.

Antyx is seeking energized and passionate people to join our Board of Directors. We are currently in a unique position with a new Executive Director, fresh office space within Contemporary Calgary, and plans to establish a new multi-year strategic plan in the coming months. We are seeking motivated volunteers who want to give back by sharing their experience and strategic thinking to help take our organization to the next level.

Term:

Directors are elected by the membership and shall serve for a term of two years. Directors may be elected for consecutive terms.  Directors may be released at the end of the elected term, by resigning, or according to The Society’s bylaws.

Qualifications & Skills:

●      The desire to help a great organization grow strategically and impact even more Calgary youth and communities. Energy, passion, and dedication are most important!

●      Experience in organizational development that you wish to share with n growing non-profit organization

●      A desire to try something new and develop your leadership skills

●      Willingness to put in 6-8 hours per month on one of two committees: the Human Resources and Governance Committee, or the Communications and Fund Development Committee

●      Familiarity and previous experience with Antyx would be considered an asset

Authority & Function:

The Board of Directors is the legal authority for Antyx Community Arts (“The Society”). As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. The Board of Directors oversees the management of the Society and the policies and strategic direction of The Society.

 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

●      Approves and demonstrates a commitment to The Society’s mission, vision, and values

●      Ensures programs and services are consistent with the mission and vision, responsive to the needs of the communities we serve, and aligned with our strategic plan

●      Governs The Society by establishing Board policies and objectives

●      Directs (at a high level) the work of the Executive Director

●      Selects, monitors, and evaluates the work of the Executive Director

●      Ensures a succession plan is in place for the Executive Director and the Board

●      Participates in mentoring and recruiting new Board Members

●      Develops The Society’s strategic plan, in concert with the Executive Director and Antyx staff

●      Reviews the strategic plan on an ongoing basis and develop work plans and committees to accomplish priorities

●      Reviews, monitors, and approves The Society’s budget and financial objectives, plans, and actions

●      Reviews and approves material transactions. Monitors The Society’s performance against the strategic and business plans including overseeing the operating results on a regular basis to evaluate whether The Society is being properly managed

●      Ensures ethical behavior and compliance with laws and regulations, auditing and accounting principles, and The Society’s own governing documents

●      Assess its own effectiveness in fulfilling its responsibilities

●      Performs such other functions as are prescribed by law, or assigned to the Board in The Society’s governing documents

●      Commits to learning and continually building one’s knowledge and skill relative to the governance of the Board

Requirements:

●      Commitment to the work of The Society

●      Maintains a good understanding of current Antyx programs and initiatives

●      Acts as an ambassador for Antyx and promotes the work of Antyx in the community

●      Maintains confidentiality and integrity

●      Good understanding of human interaction and ability to work constructively as a member of a team

●      Actively contributes to the operation of the Board by, among other things, preparing for and participating in meetings and substantive Board work, bringing issues to the table, considering different perspectives

●      Participates as a committee member in one or more committees

●      Attendance and participation in the following:

○      Board meetings which are generally scheduled every 6 weeks for approximately 2 hours; attendance at a minimum of 70% of the meetings in a year is expected 

○      Annual General Meeting

○      Special events 

○      Fund development events

○      Meetings of assigned board committees

○      Board training sessions

●      Courage to assert oneself and express one’s opinion in the best interest of The Society

●      Agreement to the Code of Conduct of Directors of The Society.
