Antyx’s Rap & Dance Cypher at The Alcove Arts Centre Art Space

We hosted our Rap & Dance Cypher event at The Alcove Arts Centre’s Art Space with DJ @playtime.wcr, @rubix.universe, @tribe.1491!

Bob Bahan Mural Opening Showcase

In the summer of 2021, the youth of Antyx Community Arts & Skipping Stone Foundation came together to create a series of works inspired by the intersection of indigeneity, diversity, and the 2SLGBTQ+ community. A rep from Foodscaped, an Indigenous permaculture group, spoke to us about the new sacred medicine garden to help us create reflections of our identities as the people of the Treaty 7 land of Mohkinstsis.

Springboard Youth Mural Project

This July, Stephanie and Bryan together with Kerz.XXV, Springboard, engaged 8 youth mural artists and 2 blog artists in a 2-week summer camp. The mural artists worked on three separate mural designs for the sea cans at ContainR in Sunnyside. Youth discussed ideas of connection, inclusion, climate change and how to make a difference. The bloggers wrote about the whole process. The opening showcase was on July 28 from 7-9pm and was a huge success!

Loop Summer Sessions

Our group of Loop Youth Leaders spent a week with the rest of our Loop artist and facilitator team this month together, exploring the land with the guidance and teachings of Elder Pablo Russell, learning about the rich natural resources of the land we live on and how to borrow and use these medicines in a good way, including working with our artist of the season Lane Shoredee to create charcoal from the materials we've gathered. We are hoping to use our charcoal as both a research material and as part of our final sculpture perhaps! We were also lucky enough to have a guided tour of Fort Calgary and its history as the origin of the city, as well as the Glenbow's Blackfoot (Niitsitapi) Gallery with our Elder, hearing about the stories and the history of the Indigenous people of the land we live on. Our group will continue to meet online and in person for the coming seasons to have conversations about our learnings, research and findings, working towards the creation of the new Genesis Sculpture Murals. Please look forward to our Summer Cultural Gathering in September where we will invite the public to be a part of our journey!

Loop Fall Sessions

For our Loop fall sessions, we partnered with Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre and Tamara Lee-Anne Cardinal to create orange shirt and red dress paper sculptures to honour and memorialize the lost indigenous children of residential schools and the MMIW as a way of exploring the themes of fall such as rebirth and change, and respectfully using natural materials from the land to create paper as part of our experiential research for the new Loop Genesis sculptures.

During Fall Session 1, there was a tour of the sculpture park and the woods behind the arts centre to collect plants to make paper next week and watching a day of the dead performance by artists in residence there!

During Fall Session 2, we participated in a paper-making workshop led by Tamara Lee-Anne Cardinal and had such a great time learning about the process and creating!

Last month was our third Loop Fall Session where we finished and installed Tamara Lee-Anne Cardinal’s work at KOAC (Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre) with our youth, including a closing ceremony!

Genesis Mural Opening Showcase

After many stops and starts since 2019, our mural reflecting themes of diversity at the Genesis Centre is finally complete!

Antyx & The Alcove Arts Centre at the Esker Foundation

We collaborated with The Alcove Arts Centre and Esker to host a Live Art Jam & Showcase in August! The Alcove collaborated with Esker on a creative series inspired by the artwork in the exhibition RELATIONS: Diaspora and Painting currently on view at Esker. The Alcove x Antyx + Esker LIVE ART JAM & SHOWCASE event explored themes of roots, identity, culture and Colonialism.

Antyx at Driven

We participated in @0ntologic’s DTP Throwback at @drivenshow’s event in Calgary at Southcentre Mall in July! We had an awesome time watching 1V1’s, MC Battles, Allstyles Battle and participating in the Breaking Battle.
