Building off the styles of work we explored in the first 5 weeks of programming, youth will have the opportunity to embed their personal styles in a collective piece. Youth will work collaboratively to create a design that features the power and connection of collective identities. The finished project will be a 3-panel art installation; each Youth Arts Action group will be creating one of the three panels that will come together on the final week to bridge the collective identities of all Youth Arts Action groups. This week is designated to the planning stages and creating a draft for the panel.

This week we will be exploring the concept of Cadavre Exquis or Exquisite Corpse, a favorite surrealist game from the mid-1920s onwards. This creative endeavor stimulates creativity through collaboration in a playful way. Building on the artistic styles explored through previous weeks, youth will have the opportunity to co-create an art piece. This collaborative project will build a sense of cohesion within the group through an expressive and fun project. 

Discussion Point: How was the experience of having full creative control over your portion of the piece, while having no idea what your group members were creating? Was this blend of known and unknown liberating or frustrating?

Youth Arts Action Genesis Week 9: Event Prep (Curation)

Free Calgary after-school program for youth ages 12-18.

Program Description:

This week is dedicated to completing the presentation of each mini-project for the exhibit and determining how everything will be displayed. Youth will complete their own write-ups for each piece, including what price it will be available for purchase. As a group, any finishing touches and anything required before the show will be completed.
